September 22 is National Hunting & Fishing Day

"The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day by hosting or supporting eight family-oriented outdoor events across the state on Sept. 22.
Through interactive activities and demonstrations, participants can connect with nature and test their outdoor skills. Some of the activities, which vary for eachevent, include:
  • Fishing(with bait and tackle provided),
  • Shooting a bow and arrow and pellet guns with a qualified instructor,
  • Seeing live animals, such as reptiles, amphibians and raptors,
  • Outdoor cooking over a fire and tasting the results, and
  • Learning about North Carolina’s hunting heritage."

September 2, 2012 Blue Moon Dove Hunt

For some folks, Labor Day in Carolina equals a three-day weekend, a brief reprieve from the classroom or the office or one final trip to the beach.  For us fortunate few Labor Day weekend means one thing, the opening day of dove season.  Me and my two eldest ventured afield to take part in this time-honored tradition.  Below are some photos from our day.
